The Impact of Using Social Media in Learning on the Students' Academic Performance in Yemeni Universities

Abstract

The Impact of Using Social Media in Learning on the Students' Academic Performance in Yemeni Universities Abstract Nowadays, social media is very popular among students and has a great impact on academic performance. However, this study is necessary to explore the social media variables that affect the academic performance of university students. This study aimed to investigate the impact of social media on the academic performance of Yemeni students in higher education institutions. The descriptive analytical method was used. This study developed a model using TAM and constructivist theory. The model included six independent variables representing interaction for learning, participation in learning, perceived interest, ease of use, time spent, IT infrastructure, and one dependent variable, academic performance. IT infrastructure is included in the study model and is an important variable but it has been overlooked in previous studies. and applied a quantitative method and analysis through surveying 382 university students selected from the university of science and technology and Sana'a university. Data were analyzed using regression analysis. It was shown that all hypotheses were supported confirming the significant relationships between social media use and the rest of the variables considered in our model (interaction for education, participation in education, perceived usefulness, ease of use, time spent, IT infrastructure) and academic performance.
