Background: Self-medication is a common practice in developing countries, especially among medical students, because of easy access to medicines. Aim: To determine the prevalence of self-medication among medical students and identify the types of medicines used, reasons for self-medication, and sources of information. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February 1 to February 15, 2024, involving 319 medical students. A structured questionnaire assessed the frequency of self-medication, medicines used, reasons, and sources of information. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 20 with descriptive statistics and the chi-square test. Results: Approximately 98% of students responded and 80% reported self-medication. Prevalence increased with advanced years of study. The most common reasons were easy availability of medicines (38%) and quick relief (30%). Analgesics (61%) and antibiotics (47%) were the primary medicines used, while headache (66%) and influenza symptoms (50%) were the most reported indications. Conclusion: Self-medication was prevalent among students, particularly those in advanced years. Educational programs are needed to promote responsible self-medication practices.en
