Correlation between Maxillary Anterior Teeth Measurements and Facial Measurements in a Sample of Yemeni Population

dc.description.abstractThis is a descriptive cross-sectional analytical study aimed to determine the correlation between facial measurements and individual\combined width and length of maxillary anterior teeth among males and females. A total of 150 dentate Yemeni subjects (74 males and 76 females) with the age ranged from 18 to 30 years were included in this study. This was done during the period from June 2018 to October 2019. Two digital photographs of each individual's face (frontal and profile views) were taken, using AutoCAD software 2016 to analyze the facial measurements. These measurements are: intercanthal distance (ICD), inter-pupillary distance (IPD), inter-alar width (IAW) intercommissural width (ICW), bi-zygomatic width (BZW), and profile distance. A maxillary arch impression was taken for each individual to produce a maxillary cast. Verner caliper was used to record the dental parameters:individual\combined width and individual length of six maxillary anterior teeth. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. The result showed a significant correlation between IPD and the width of six maxillary anterior teeth of all study subjects, ICD and central incisors, and BZW and the width of canines, while, IAW and ICW were not correlated with all teeth measurements. All facial measurements had a significant correlation with CW according to the linear regression analysis, except ICW and IAW in females, and IAW, ICW, and profile in males. It was concluded that the IPD and ICD can be used to determine CW in both genders. The BZW and IPD can be specific anthropological measurements for the width of central incisors and canines in males, and the IPD can be a specific anthropological measurement to determine the width of central and lateral incisors in females. This study recommened that for the accurate the estimation of teeth length, the IPD could be used to predict the length of central incisors and canines.
