خلاصة

Background: Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) represent a significant challenge to patient safety, increasing morbidity and healthcare costs. Nurses play a pivotal role in the implementation of prevention protocols. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the levels of knowledge, attitudes, and actual clinical practices regarding SSI prevention among nurses in Dhamar City. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among a convenience sample of 140 nurses using a structured self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Results: The findings revealed a high level of theoretical knowledge (>95%) in general protocols and positive professional attitudes toward shared responsibility (87.1% strongly agreed). However, a significant "Knowledge-Practice Gap" was identified; while hand hygiene adherence was excellent (98.6%), only 50% consistently checked sterilization validity, and 52.9% adhered to removing jewelry and watches during practice. Conclusion: Although nurses possess a strong theoretical foundation, there is a clear inconsistency in translating this knowledge into routine clinical habits.
